Alicante Climate
Costa Blanca Details
Rainfall is 336 mm per
year, September and October being the wettest months due to torrential rains
caused by the cold drop, which can reach over 200 mm in 24 hours, causing
severe flooding. This irregularity is the reason that a year has only 37 rainy
days.
The record maximum
temperature is 41.4º C in
Records of
precipitation in 24 hours are 270.2 mm on September 30, 1997 and 220.2 mm on October
19, 1982. Snow is an extremely rare phenomenon but has been presented on very
rare cases, such as in January 1885, December 1926 (the biggest snowfall of the
past two centuries throughout the city), and in January 1945. There were a few
flakes in February 1983.
The daily thermal
oscillation is small due to the maritime influence, although episodes of the
west wind can exceed 15º C. As to the annual oscillation, it is also reduced,
so the winters are mild and summers are hot.
