Beginning
The Alicante Club de Futbol
was founded in 1918 in order to face the year at Real Murcia Club de Futbol. The
uniform was a red shirt and black trousers, with two thin, white stripes on the
sides. In 1923 they competed in the lower grades.
For most of its
history, it has militated Alicante CF in the Third Division in
This season, which
followed the Spanish Civil War, did not have many teams in the Second Division,
and teams were assigned by sporting merits but also population and
representation, these being the reasons that led to the Alicante CF reaching
that level. Alicante CF ended the season in third position, although a further
restructuring of the group led the team to the Third Division.
The Alicante CF went
back to the Second Division in the 1950s, notably in 1951. They failed to
maintain the class and had to wait some years—until the 1955–56 season—to climb
back to the silver category.
The Alicante CF fell back
to Spanish Third Division in 1958, and they did not move out of that category
until 2008. During those three seasons, they shared the category with Hercules

During the 1960s, the
Alicante CF, due to poor economic management, was a subsidiary of Hercules for
eight seasons (from 1961–62 to 1968–89) to save the club from disappearing.
This situation was repeated unsuccessfully in 1990 due to the infiltration of
Hercules CF in the directive of the team.
End of the 20th Century
