At the end of the 2005–06 season, Solana resigned as president after losing the second consecutive promotion. After playing with success and a total of three promotions to Second Division, the team won the 2007–08 season.

In the 2002–03 season the team reached the final round of the Copa del Rey Football, eliminating two teams from the Primera Division—RCD Espanyol and Valencia CF. In the eighth round they were eliminated by Deportivo de La Coruna.

In the 2004–05 season they were the first in Group III of the Second Division B. The rise was eliminated by Lorca Deportiva Club de Futbol coach Unai Emery. The game had an attendance of 26,000 spectators, the highest in their history.

The 2005–06 season again disputed promotion to Segunda A, and the team was ranked third. In the first round they lost to the Eagles Football Club, with a score of 2-1 and in the Rico Perez Stadium, with a score of 0-0.

Finally, the second round fell to the Society Sports Ponferradina, with scores of 0-1 and 1-1. This season they were able to eliminate Recreativo de Huelva, then Second Division of the Copa del Rey, and lost against Real Zaragoza in the First Division team in the round of penalties.

Antonio Solana resigned as chairman due to heart problems.

In the 2006–07 season the league ended Alicante CF in first place. The team was classified to compete in the promotion due to a lack of time for completion of the regular league.

In the first round they defeated Real Union Club de Irun, with a result of 1-0, and won at the Gal Stadium Irun (2-0), with 12,000 spectators in the stands of the Rico Perez. They lost the second round against the Racing Club de Ferrol, losing 2-0 in the first leg and winning the round 1-0.

In the 2007–08 season the team almost always remained among the top four, making the final classification for the promotion of advancement, being in second place in the standings.

The first round of the promotion against the disputed Union Deportiva Fuerteventura resulted in tying at 0-0 and then winning away at the Rico Perez, with 3-0. In the second round they again faced the Ponferradina, with the first leg ending with a result of 2-0 at the Rico Perez.

Alicante Football Club History

2000

In 1997 Pedro Boj took over the club, alongside Antonio Solana, who would be vice president and then president. The club was in a precarious position, about to become a subsidiary of Hercules CF and Regional Advantage.

The new president broke off negotiations with the Hercules CF and won the promotion to the Third Division. After a missed promotion in 2001, they were in the Second Division B.

They went back to play in Ponferrada, with a result of 1-0, being defeated and eliminated from this promotion to Second Division. Alicante CF became last of all the teams of First, Second, and Second B.

In Copa del Rey they won the first three rounds and a single party in the area of their opponent, removing the first one to Union Deportiva Ibiza Eivissa, the second in the University of Las Palmas, and the third at Talavera Football Club by 0-2.

In the next round they faced Real Madrid in a double-elimination match. The trip took place at the Jose Rico Perez Stadium before 20,000 spectators anticipating the Alicante CF to transform committed penalties on Borja Alvaro.

Real Madrid tied off in time with a goal by Javier Angel Balboa. The round was played at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on January 2. Real Madrid won 2-1 and won the round. It was the first goal for Real Madrid. Real Madrid’s second came 93 minutes into the match, with a Guti shot from outside the area.

Season 2008–09

If the 2007–08 season was perhaps the best in club history, one cannot say the same for the present. There are already four coaches: Carlos Granero (got five points in seven days), Asier Garitano (two points in just three games), Nino Lema (two points in five games), and Manolo Jimenez (missed all the meetings that took place). The latter was dismissed due to internal problems, especially economic, of the entity.
