Alicante Lemmon Express
Costa Blanca Details

The innovative project
was successful, and the wagons were painted again, and from June 1, 1971 until
May 27, 2005 they worked on the Lemon-Express tourist train between Benidorm
and Gata de Gorgos.
There were 12 wagons
from the ZZ-200 and CC-200 series, manufactured in the 1920s. Both types of
cars were modified and renewed in 1987. Iban was pulled by locomotives of the
1000 Series, and they were manufactured between 1954 and 1964 by Babcock &
Wilcox Company.
Unfortunately, they
are no longer in operation, having ended service in May 2005. The wagons are
not in good condition, and in recent times there were some derailments. The
aging of the material that was chosen was a major factor. The decision was also
based on other major projects, like the renovation of the track. The Lemon
Express is currently in a state of neglect.
The idea of launching
the train Lemon-Time Express was that of Englishman David A. G. Simpson. He
decided to take old, out-of-service wagons from the Benidorm station that were
used on the Denia-Carcagente line and were going to be scrapped.
