Alicante Tram Station

Costa Blanca Details

Frequency:

Line 1 = 30 minutes

Line 3 = 20–30 minutes

Line 4 = 30 minutes

Line 9 = 60 minutes

The frequencies are gradually improving as they receive new units and are able to perform more movements per hour. When the network is completed, the frequencies in the underground sections will be set at about three to four minutes. On several occasions users have complained of the lack in punctuality.

In stations with multiple lines, the stop frequencies vary.

Common Lines 1 and 3 have a frequency of 12–15 minutes.

La Isleta and Lucentum have frequencies of eight minutes with trams and trains to Alicante but not with other destinations (Market and Puerto del Mar).

Underground

The tram will reach the underground city of Alicante. This tunnel will have a total of 4.2 km and six stations—MARQ, Mercado, Luceros, Estacion Central, Gran Via, and Avenida Orihuela—pass through in most urban and suburban services.

Currently, the only operational section in this tunnel is MARQ–Mercado, which is 730 m long. In the beginning of 2009, it was announced that the community will commission a station in Luceros, and in 2011 the tunnel will be built in its entirety. The units can reach a speed of 70 km/h for the train and 110 km/h for the tram.

Upon completion of the Denia tunnel, they will start on another 1.4 km tunnel between the Sangueta and La Isleta stations. This tunnel has a budget of $34 million, and its function will be splitting the route in a difficult stretch. It will reduce travel time and eliminate the single-track Line 4, which uses this route.

The train-tram of Vossloh, with a capacity of 303 passengers and a maximum speed of 100 km/h, is trained to perform on mixed paths, i.e. on a tram on an urban plan or train in a suburban or metropolitan area (being able to achieve, in the latter case, a speed of 100 km/h).

For these units FGV paid a fine because of irregularities in the contract for the Rail-Tram 9 to Alstom (now Vossloh) that was denounced by the candidates to win the contest.

At the end of May 2007, Flexity Outlook’s Bombardier was entered into service, consisting of trams from Iran that were increasingly incorporated into the new lines under construction.

For now you can see from service Line 3, from Market to El Campello, and Line 4. Also, it is expected that the frequencies on the line will gradually grow with the support of the new tramway and material while they are open to the public and subsequent installment branches.

Currently (2007), the units have been refurbished, and upgraded from the trademark Sunsundegui TRAM to six of the eight automotive MAN Diesel that circulate between Benidorm and Denia.
