Costa Blanca Details

The most obvious reference to the geography of calpina is the Rock of Ifach, declared a nature reserve by the Generalitat Valenciana in 1987. The township has many beaches and coves of very good quality. Another noteworthy place is the naturalpark ofLas Salinas, which was formerly used to extract salt during Roman times.

Economics and Demography

Traditionally, it was an agricultural community, producing almonds, raisins, and carob beans. Calpe’s economy also relied on fishing and salt extraction. However, since the last century (in the 1930s Ernest Hemingway summered here), especially during the ’60s, Calpe became a tourist town, transforming its economy, its planning, and, in large measure, its own population.

In 2008 it had 29,228 inhabitants, 62.8% of whom were foreign, mainly British (4,375 surveyed, 15% of total census) and Germans (3,887, 13% of the census).

Calpe is amunicipality ofValencia , on the north coast of theprovince ofAlicante, and in the region of La Marina Alta. It has 29,228 inhabitants, of which more than half are of foreign nationality.

The Rock of Ifach rises majestically to 332 m in height. The Rock is a symbol of the Costa Blanca.
