Cuisine and Fiestas
Rice, fish, and
seafood, especially the world-famous red boiled shrimp. The seafood casserole
(suquet), cakes, espencat, garlic sauce, llandeta, dried octopus, shrimp with
spinach, etc. The mistelle and raisins are the basis of an excellent cuisine,
which adds citrus.
As for the festivities,
there are Fallas, Bonfires of San Juan, Moors and Christians, and Bous a la Mar.
The Castle: Built on a hill by the Moors. It has been municipal property since 1952
and is part of the
Walls: Some sections are kept in good condition.
Towers
Tower Gerre (Vase): Watchtower with a truncated cone shape, which
is the reason for its name (vase). It emphasizes the arms of Charles I from the
16th century.
Tower Carrals: Strong set of defensive buildings that are now
privately owned.
