Elche sits on a plain crossed by the Sierras del Molar, and Tabai Castellar, Betic last spurs of the varied landscapes that make up the municipality where the palm is a constant and distinctive. The city is bisected by the river Vinalopo, low flow rate but with a basin that can reach 100 meters, which divided North to South of Elche.

As representative of the landscape of Elche is no doubt that the whole garden is called the Palm, which covers much of the city and its countryside. Highlights of the botanical garden Huerto del Cura, the Imperial palm tree in the center of town.

In the Borough can enjoy the sites of significant ecological value, such as Hondo Natural Park, which shares with Crevillente, and The Nature of Municipal Clot Galvany containing flora and fauna of great significance level and autonomic even state. It is also worth noting the Embalse de Elche, declared of Cultural Interest,  that in the year 1632 meets the river crossing the town Vinalopo.

Elche has a coastline length of 12 km, of which 9 km are beaches formed by dunes and pine groves in a typical Mediterranean landscape. In the north are the vast dunes of the beaches and the Altet Fondet of Senieta that extends into the Arenales del Sol resort offers a wide range of services.

The city of Elche is located on the Mediterranean coast of Alicante province, southeast Spain, 23 km southwest of the city of Alicante, 52 km northeast of Murcia, 179 km south of Valencia and 430 km Madrid. The coordinates of the city are latitude 38 ° 16 '01 "N, longitude: 0 ° 41' 54" W, has an area of 326.07 km ² and is located at an average height of 86 meters above sea level as Instituto Geográfico Nacional.

Bordering towns

Elche is bordered by the two other municipalities that form part of the region of Lower Vinalopo Crevillente and Santa Pola. To the north, bordering the municipality of Monforte and Aspe Middle Vinalopo, and the city of Alicante (Alacantí in the region). To the south is Dolores, San Fulgencio, and Guardamar de la Vega Baja del Segura. Relief

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then open the beaches of the Dunes, the Carabasí (nudist beach) and L'Fill in the foothills of the Sierra de Santa Pola. At the southern end is El Pinet, La Marina and The Fish - El Rebollo beaches with clear water and fine sand surrounded by pine trees, the three distinguished Blue Flag .

Climate

Its climate is arid Mediterranean with average temperatures ranging between 6 January and 26 July, every summer reaching maximum of 35 degrees in the hottest days mainly due to the winds of the west. Rain is rare, about 250 mm per year. Torrential rains can be caused by the accumulation of heat in the layers of clouds and the arrival of cold polar air masses, especially in autumn .
