Railways:

Gandia also has a railway station connected to the circuit near Valencia, the last station on line C1. During the high tourist season, there are long-haul trains arriving from Madrid.

Business

Until the late 19th century, silk and raisins remained the two products of greatest interest to farmers in Gandia, but the construction of railways and coal ports in 1893 encouraged them to extend the cultivation of oranges, which is now the mainstream. It is also an important fishing center.

Gandia is a city of Valencia, Spain. It is located in the southeast of the province of Valencia and is the capital of the region of Safor. It has a population of 81,950 inhabitants (INE 2009), so this is the seventh most populous city and one of the most important in the region due to its location close to the borders of the provinces of Valencia and Alicante.

Gandia is one of the major tourist destinations in Spain, so, in August the city triples its population to 250,000.

Urban and interurban bus MUNICIPAL: Are green, the logo is L’URBA, PUBLIC TRANSPORT GANDIA, with a frequency of 10 minutes depending on traffic leaving from the railway station.

BUS GANDIA FROM A BEACH: Are yellow, the logo is THE MARINA GANDIENSE, and the frequency is 12–15 minutes leaving from the railway station.

BUS COMARCAL: Gandia has a bus station next to the railway station, emerging from the lines connecting the city with all the neighborhoods in the region. It also serves as the basis for buses to all Spanish geography. The line connection is the most used in Gandia-Madrid, but there are also connections to Teruel and Zaragoza, Bilbao, Galicia, Barcelona, and Andalusia among others.

Demographics

Gandia has 81,950 inhabitants (INE 2009), with 23.5% of the registered population of foreign nationality.

Transportation

The city of Gandia has a complete transportation network, with both urban and intercity travel. In the city there are currently two city bus lines. The red one connects the north of the city center, and the other, yellow, connects the south with the center. There is also a bus line that connects the city with the beach.

A third line is planned to connect the railway station with the new Hospital of Gandia, and they’re planning on a fourth, which would serve to connect the station with the University of Grao. They would also like to install a tram to connect Grao de Gandia with the center.

Since the ’60s, Gandia has become a major tourist destination for beach, seasonal, and mostly for the interior of Spain.

Currently, the main pillar of the local economy is the trade and services, which orbits populations in the region with a population of over 200,000.

University

Gandia is represented in the Polytechnic University of Valencia and the University of Valencia, the latter with the Summer University. UNED also has a headquarters in the city.
