on the coast (Dehesa de Campoamor); and the remaining 23,657 in the 20 parishes
of Murada, Saint Barthelemy, Los Desamparados, La Aparecida, and Torremendo.
According to the
census of 2007, 37% of the population was of foreign nationality. Among nonnationals,
83.4% are of European origin. In the
Population distribution
The population pyramid
of Orihuela is quite similar to the model of typical aging population in
western developed countries, characterized by a narrow base (young people) and
a large body (adult population) that is reduced with increasing age. This
population structure is typical in modern demographic regime with a shift
toward an aging population and declining birth year.
