March

Fair Gastrocomer Hotel and Trade: Fair held at the port and brings a large number of local merchants and restaurants with a section where you can taste dishes from many restaurants in Torrevieja.

April

Easter Torrevieja: There are 14 guilds in total. Fraternities contain both young brothers (usually under 12 years) that are in the middle of the procession route. The brothers are tied and holding adult Achotes on both sides of the street, preceding the image or throne. The brothers give candy to people viewing the procession.

Palm Sunday: The blessing of the palms. On Sunday morning, in the temple of the Immaculate Conception, participants can bless their palms. Then follows the procession of Our Lord Jesus Image Triumphant (belonging to the Confraternity of Our Lady of Hope and Peace) and the image of San Juan Evangelista (belonging to the Confraternity of the same name).

Good Friday Solemn Procession of the Announcement of the Death of Jesus: At eight o’clock the Brotherhood of the Convocation procession is accompanied by representatives of the rest of the Brotherhood. This procession symbolizes the announcement of the death of Jesus and invites all to the Holy Burial.

Magna and Solemn Procession of the Holy Burial of Christ: This is the largest procession of the week involving all the brotherhoods: Call; Samaritan Woman, Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus at the Last Supper and Holy; Our Father Jesus in Prayer the Garden of Gethsemane; the Flagellation of Christ Holy Saint Peter Repentant; Nuestro Padre Jesus Cautivo (Nazarene); Nuestro Padre Jesus de la Caida; Santa Mujer Veronica; Our Lady of Hope and Peace; Holy Mary and Christ Crucified Silence; Our Lady of Mercy; Holy Sepulcher (recumbent); St. John the Evangelist; and Our Lady of Sorrows.

Sabado de Gloria Popular Tambora: At 10 p.m. many residents leave the city, playing their own drums as an expression of joy on the Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Resurrection Sunday Solemn Procession of the Meeting: At eight o’clock, involving the Brotherhood of St. John the Evangelist (with their brothers and image dressed in white) and the image of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Sacrament followed under Palio, there is a meeting both images, and it becomes apparent to the virgin’s veil that covers her face.

January

New Year’s Eve

Three Kings: SS.MM the Magi from the east comes to the city by sea, landing on the west dam and walking the main streets of Torrevieja with a colorful show with numerous floats.

February

Carnival

Pre-Carnival: Former informal parade to be held a week before the parade-contest.

Parade Contest: Held on Sunday, with numerous extras parading with new costumes and fantasies. There are several prizes awarded by a jury composed of personalities and social policies of the city.

Parade Night: A parade, with an informal meeting on Saturday following the contest where, in addition to the groups participating in the contest, the parade includes all those who want to end the festival in the crown area of the city.

Bailes de Carnaval: For small to larger, town hall meetings are organized in places like the Club Nautico de Torrevieja, Macrodiscoteca, or places for the elderly.

 

 

 

At the junction of the streets of Ramon Maria and Parodi Gallud Both are processions, and a meeting takes place on the Via Dolorosa. The Anthem of Spain sounds when facing the images of the Brotherhood of Hope and The Fall. From that moment it becomes a single guild procession, and they begin to distribute candy.

Holy Thursday: Two processions occur. In both there is no candy as a token of respect for the death of our Lord. Throughout the journey the streetlights are turned off, and the processions are illuminated only by light of Achotes, the guild, and the church candles that accompany them.

Solemn Procession of Silence: At 11 o’clock, from the Temple Arciprestal, there is a procession of the brotherhoods of the Call for the Crucified Christ and Holy Mary of Silence (with its three thrones). At the end of the procession, the Francisco Vallejos Choir sings “Lord, I’ve Got a Tired Life” and “Mother of Silence.”

Solemn Procession to Calvary Descent: At 12 o’clock, from the Plaza del Calvario, the confraternity of Our Lady of Mercy leads a procession in silence all the way to the Church of the Immaculate. At the end of the Plaza del Calvario, the Francisco Vallejos Choir sings “The Passion of the Cake Aunt.” The silence is broken only during the tour of the large band of drums.

May

May Fair: One of the most important fairs in the Andalusian Mediterranean. At the fairgrounds, near the port, there are a multitude of booths for visitors to enjoy, with many decorations (prizes are awarded to the best), dining, various concerts that take place on the main stage, as well as Spanish dance festivals. On closing day the campus welcomes horseback riding.

Tuesday, Night of Fish: The heads of each household decorate and finish a fried-fish dinner.

Wednesday, the Illumination: the mayor of the city turns on the ordering of the compound.

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday Nights are livened with concerts of Spanish artists (mostly Andalusians) and dance festivals in charge of schools in the city.

Sunday, the Closing: At noon the site becomes an equestrian venue. At night the show ends.

Solemn Procession: There is a departure from the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that ends at the temple of the Immaculate Conception. The brotherhoods of the Call and Our Lady of Hope and Peace are involved.

Easter Monday Solemn Procession: From the Center of the Immaculate Conception Arciprestal processions are held with the following guilds: Call and Samaritan Woman; Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus Prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane; Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesus at the Last Supper and Holy; Holy Christ Flagellation of Saint Peter Repentant; and Nuestro Padre Jesus Cautivo (Nazarene).

Holy Tuesday Solemn Procession: From the Immaculate Conception there are more processions with the brotherhoods Call; the Crucified Christ; Holy Mary of Silence (with only the image of Nuestro Padre Jesus de la Salud); Nuestro Padre Jesus de la Caida; Santa Mujer Veronica; and San Juan Evangelista Our Lady of Sorrows.

Holy Wednesday Solemn Procession of the Meeting: From the Church of the Immaculate Our Lady of Hope and Peace and from the Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are processions with the Call of Our Father Jesus the Fall.

Christmas

Belen Municipal: On the day of the patron saint, December 8, Torrevieja opens at the Green this Constitution Square, opposite the town hall. It is large and has several allegories to the city.

End of Year: At the Plaza of the Constitution, many people gather to take the 12 grapes under the watch of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.

December

Festivities in honor of the Immaculate Conception.

La Comparsa of Lyly and the Giants (The Charamita): Cardboard characters carried by people who walk the streets of the city followed by a multitude of children. Bands perform during all events in the afternoon. Occasionally there is a parade at night.

Solemn Procession: The image of the Immaculate Conception cruises the streets of the city accompanied by numerous salt parishioners carrying candles. On arrival at the Casino of Torrevieja, they throw fireworks as you arrival at the temple.

Patron Activities: There is racing, Gymkhana, markets, and concerts that take place in celebration of the city.

June

Bonfires of San Juan: A festival in the city near Salinera with two fires—Bonfire of Mills and Punta del Calvario. The Bonfire of the Punta has a sculpture much like any fire or failure of the wider community. The Windmills of Calvary is made by the neighborhood residents. Days before the bonfires there are bingos and gifts given.

 

July

Marineras Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen: There are processions after the image is loaded at the port of the city, and they stroll by the bay of Torrevieja, followed by numerous individuals in their private boats.

Habaneras evenings on the beach: The residents of the Havanans chant at the hands of local groups.

Certamen International Habaneras and Polyphony of Torrevieja: Certamen is declared an International Tourist Interest.

August

Party of San Emigdio and Neighborhoods

Numerous Cultural Activities: The council organizes numerous concerts and other markets throughout the summer.

September

Harvest Festival de la Mata: Held in the parish of Torrevieja Torrelamata.

October

Valencia Day: October 9.
